Dangerous Foods to Avoid Feeding Your Dog
While you may want to give in to Fido’s pleading eyes and share some of your meal, there are some foods that are dangerous and downright toxic to feed to dogs. Here are five dangerous foods that you should avoid feeding your dog.
1. Grapes or Raisins
Grapes (and thus also raisins) may cause liver damage or kidney failure due to the presence of certain toxins.
Keep that candy far away from your canine friend. Not only can the caffeine in chocolate be harmful, other substances that are present, such as theophylline and theobromine, can cause serious damage.
With a similar composition to chocolate, this is one food item that should go nowhere near your pet, ever.
4. Cooked Bones
While some pet owners may see cooked bones as a special treat, cooked bones can actually pose a choking hazard for pets. Cooked bones could also splinter, causing oral wounds.
Alcohol is not meant for pet consumption. Alcohol can depress a pet’s breathing, and possibly lead to a coma. Consuming alcohol could even be fatal for a dog.
Although you may feel selfish not sharing, remember that keeping these foods away from your pets is the most responsible and loving thing you can do as a pet owner. For assistance from a dog veterinarian, please call Fresno Pet ER today.
